Re: [BKARTS] [SPAM] BOOK_ARTS-L Digest - 21 Sep 2004 to 22 Sep 2004 (#2004-259)

The Casco Bay Scribes still has a few openings for this wonderful
workshop.

I have personally taken several workshops with Nancy... she is not only
an

incredible book artist and calligrapher, but also a very organized and

inspiring teacher. You will not regret signing up for this class, which
is

limited to 10 participants. Come join us for a wonderful weekend in
Maine!

BOOKBINDING FOR CALLIGRAPHERS

October 2nd & 3rd, 10am til 4pm

Portland, Maine

Interested in the book as a vehicle for your lettering? Make your own

journals and binding models while learning the basics of simple book

binding. In this class participants will make at least seven different

single and multiple signature bindings, plus a paper slip case to house

them. You will sew historical and contemporary bindings while gaining
skills

in handling paper, sewing structures, using adhesives, and making your
own

binding tools. This is a good beginning binding class for lettering
artists,

as we'll discuss calligraphic possibilities for these structures.
However,

these book models can be used along with other arts as well. No previous

binding experience is necessary.

Nancy Leavitt has been making and binding calligraphic manuscript books

since 1985. Her books are found in numerous public and private
collections

in the U.S. and Europe.

Cost is $140. for non guild members, including virtually all materials.
