[BKARTS] Susan King in New Mexico



Greetings from New Mexico: the Land of Enchantment and swing state politics!
You can always count on something special to happen in New Mexico: the sun
always shines, presidential candidates show up daily on our doorsteps, and
best of all, SUSAN KING returns to her alma mater.

In the midst of the "eye of the storm" of election politics,
what better time to celebrate Book Arts and the art of Susan King!
This week, Susan King will come to New Mexico State University in
Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Susan King is a renowned alumna (?73) of New Mexico State University¹s
Master of Fine Arts Program. As an artist, she combines writing and
photography, and creates artist¹s books in multiples. She founded Paradise
Press where she makes books using lead type and letterpress equipment. Her
books are known for their use of original writing, innovative formats, and
attention to craft. Her book, Treading the Maze, traces a year of travel
through medieval Europe, and also through her diagnosis, treatment and
recovery from breast cancer.

Lecture is free and open to the public. The Visiting Artist Program is made
possible by the Lilian Steinman Endowed Fund for Visiting Artists and the
NMSU College of Arts and Sciences. Exhibition sponsors: the Honors College,
Department of Art, Women Studies Program, the Lilian Steinman Endowed Fund
for Visiting Artists and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The NMSU Art Department offers degrees in undergraduate studies, as well as
a Master of Fine Arts.

Art History  B.A. 
The B.A. in art with an emphasis in art history consists of the study and
scholarly interpretation of works of art from the past and present. The
program examines art objects, artists and art institutions and offers sound
training in research methods, writing, critical thinking, and analysis of
visual and cultural meaning. Students view photographic reproductions and
actual objects in classroom, library, museum, gallery, and field settings.

Studio Art  B.A. 
The B.A. provides a general grounding in the techniques of art-making within
a liberal arts education.

Studio Art  B.F.A. 
The B.F.A. offers both the historical and the technical background needed to
complement your creative powers. A foundation program during the first year
introduces basic concepts that will form a background for further,
specialized study.

Art History  M.A. 
Study leading to scholarly research, gallery or museum work, university or
college teaching and critical writing.

Studio Art  M.F.A. 
Concentrated studio work to prepare for a career as a professional artist,
designer, or university/college educator. Concentrated studio work to
