I've used a doublesided adhesive called 3M #415.  You can get it from talas - http://nt.bnt.com/talas/menu.html?category=177

it's different from the mass market double-stick tape.  This one doesn't have a plastic film with adhesive coated on either side of it.  it's just the adhesive, so it is very very thin
