Re: [BKARTS] Pam Barrios

Pam Barrios gave this workshop for the Hand Bookbinders of California this
past weekend in San Francisco. It was very, very good, and I rceommend it
highly. She may make changes in the content before October since she is
always experimenting and changing things, but we found it very stimulating
and useful.

The Mid West Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers and the Cincinnati
Book Arts Society are cosponsors of a workshop by Pamela Barrios,
conservator at BYU, teaching Sewn Board Bindings and Slip Case and
Chemise protection for small books. The workshop will be held in
Cincinnati on Oct. 1 & 2. Please see the pdf attached for more
information or contact Rebecca Shaffer <bookhart@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
BINDING AND PROTECTING SMALL BOOKS

Discover a simple approach for binding and protecting small books from
bookbinder and conservator, Pam Barrios. On day one investigate the
sewn-board binding developed by Gary Frost, which provides elegance and
'open- ability’ for books with few signatures. Create a binding of
four signatures with sewn-on covers. Pam also demonstrates variations
in spine treatment for additional bindings. On day two learn a chemise
and matchbox slipcase that can be made in half the time needed for a
clamshell box. Familiarity with case binding is useful but not
necessary.
