³The Nature of Letterpress²

In this workshop, participants will explore the exciting possibilities
offered by learning to print with non-conventional materials, including
natural forms such as leaves, twigs, flowers and grasses. We will learn the
techniques for selecting and preparing these alternative materials to create
your own relief plates. We¹ll also cover the basics of letterpress printing,
including setting type by hand. Participants will print a small edition of a
broadside (small poster) that includes a short quote complimenting the
natural imagery.

(No experience necessary)

Cost: $135/person

July 16 10-5pm (One-day Workshop)

³Pressing Poetry²(No experience necessary; poetry writing experience
helpful)

Special Guest Writer: Ann Scott Winters

Poetry is perhaps the most natural text for letterpress printing. One of
poetry¹s key elements is visual imagery and how to express it verbally,
using simile, rhythm, blah, blah. In the morning of this workshop, you will
learn the basics and refinements of poetry writing from accomplished
educator and writer Ann Scott Winters. Then in the afternoon, you will
create and print a design using your poetry set by hand and printed on the
Vandercook proofing press.

(No experience necessary; poetry writing experience helpful)

Cost: $85/person
