[BKARTS] Sharon Gilbert

Dear Friends
I was extremely saddened to receive an email with a note about the death of
Sharon Gilbert on June 9. She was 61.

Sharon was a wonderful artist, collagist, sculptor and passionate maker of
books. Her work was strong, reflecting her personal politics, as well as a
wonderful, direct and human spirit. In addition to making books, she also
curated and organized Open for Action: Political Book Art, with Richard
Minsky, at the Center for Book Arts in New York. Her work was included in
Book Arts in the USA (curated by Richard) which traveled world wide. More
recently, her work was included in Working in Brooklyn, which celebrated the
re-opening of the Brooklyn Museum last spring, in addition to many other
venues. She had been awarded many residencies including Virginia Center for
the Creative Arts and Kanaal 10 Plantage Doklaan, in Amsterdam.

The obituary, which ran on June 13, can be viewed on line
