The Skil screwdriver/drill has an unadjustable chuck size. Pardon my
lack of terminology here but it uses the standard small screwdriver
bits that come in sets with larger drills and they just snap in the
chuck. The drill bit with this is permanently set into what looks like
a screwdriver bit with the tip cut off. Replacement drill bits are
available but were something like $5.25 each. Glad I didn't buy it as
your brad idea makes much more sense.

I do have a bit heavy corded drill with an adjustable chuck but have
avoided it so far for book binding because of its size and weight.
Also have some cigar box nails which might do the trick - must give it
a try on some scrap paper.
