[BKARTS] "ONE FOR THE BOOK" at the NYPL

It was a very exciting afternoon yesterday, when The Donnell Library Center
(New York Public Library) presented 'Meet the Makers' with Ron Hutchinson.

Ron Hutchinson, cofounder of The Vitaphone Project which finds missing and
separated soundtracks
and music discs or mute films for restoration, presented and discussed his
preservation of Vitaphone Vaudeville Films (1926--30).

Since its inception, The Vitaphone Project has located over 3,000 -- 12 and
16 inch shellac soundtrack discs in private hands, has assisted on the
restoration of over 35 shorts and 12 features. There are still over 80 shorts for
which picture, but no sound, exists. Check your attic!

A full house enjoyed films such as "Baby Rose Marie, the Child Wonder"
(1929), George Burns and Gracie Allen in "Lambchops" (1928) and Chaz Chase, the
Unique Comedian (1928), who eats his costume AND a violin! Most of these were
filmed in Brooklyn.

As a surprise, he brought and showed the film "One For The Book" (1939) in
which my father, Hal Sherman, costarred with Betty Hutton and did his legendary
slip and slide 'eccentric' dance.

"ONE FOR THE BOOK" is also a new limited artist book edition which includes a
DVD dance clip
from the film.
