Re: [BKARTS] BOOK_ARTS-L Digest - 2 May 2006 to 3 May 2006 (#2006-28)

Dear Charlene Mathews,
Well, of course, The Oh-So-Famous Artist calls you a "fabricator,"
because if he called you a bookbinder or an artist, he would have to give you
credit. You must DEMAND that he give you credit. You also have every right to
call the gallery/ies in a friendly way and say that you did the bookbinding and
would like credit on the artist label. Or, if you prefer, a friend may be
looking at the exhibit and politely ask the gallery whether or not the
bookbinding is the work of the artist, Charlene Mathews. It is not lost on me that
The Artist is male and you are female. Browbeating sounds like his style.
Hopefully as bookbinders and book artists, we give each other credit. I don't
think I've ever knowingly taught a book structure, for example, and not
credited the inventor of it, if I knew. (e.g. Hedi Kyle inventing the flag book.)
This guy is not a book artist, but he must be taught how we do things in the
book arts world.
     Best wishes to you,
     cj grossman
