[BKARTS] Nepalese bone clasp vendor coming to NYC in August

Help needed finding a location for this event in NYC and book artists needed to come!

Meeting with artists between August 29 and September 1, 2006

Marie-Céleste Edwards of DHP Papermill & Press (based in the Hudson Valley) is coordinating an evening in NYC to showcase the work of a colleague visiting from Kathmandu, Nepal, Mr. Bindu Adhikary.

Mr. Adhikary is Managing Director of Chino Crafts, a Nepalese company which makes bone folders, bone, bamboo and horn clasps appropriate for use by book binders and book artists. In addition to many other products (including jewelry) Chino Crafts produces Lokta fiber handmade papers which might appeal to calligraphers and origami artists as well.

For book artists especially, this is an amazing opportunity to meet directly with the manufacturer of bone, bamboo and horn clasps of every possible shape and size - not offered in art/binding supply stores.

Chino Crafts gladly sells directly to individuals.

Mr. Adhikary will be visiting NYC for less than a week, arriving August 28 and departing September 2, 2006. Mr. Adhikary hopes to establish new relationships during his visit with many, many artists and local art/binding supply stores.

If you have any suggestions for a donated/free space wherein Mr. Adhikary could talk about the work of his craftsmen (he'll be bringing photos) and set up to show his samples, all help is appreciated.

If you'd like to sign up to attend, please contact Marie-Céleste to give your contact info so she can get in touch with you once a location and time have been set. There is no fee involved.

Please contact Marie-Céleste either by email at mce@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or by phone at (845) 454-8151.

Some of Chino Crafts' work can be viewed through DHP's LINKS webpage of DHP's website.

A brief history: Marie-Céleste began an email correspondence with Chino Crafts about 8 years ago. She has purchased bone clasps and Nepalese Lokta papers through Chino and their contacts. She's continued their correspondence over the years trying to help Mr. Adhikary figure out ways of tapping into the U.S. market. Mr. Adhikary and his wife will be visiting the U.S. thanks to a professional grant.

Thanks in advance for any help on finding a space or for your interest in meeting Mr. Adhikary and being able to purchase clasps direct from his company.
