Re: [BKARTS] Susan Wojcicki and Books at Google

It is Google's plan to make an online library of read ready work which
can be read off of a website and copied at a charge per page (likely 25
cents per pages or something to that effect). Each page will be scanned
in and may be read via your normal browser.

Like any library, the online library will be made available to the
public at no charge, or with a small yearly fee.

Other online libraries charge a HUGE fee to use their service...Questia,
for example charges $30.00 per month. Unfortunately, like any
corporation, the fees WILL go up, as the need to make a profit is always
so much faster in this McDonaldized culture than service and innovation.
(Sorry, my little anti-corporate rant actually comes from Tim Hortons
trying to suggest that getting a minimum wage job with them is a
lifestyle choice...long story, and completely off topic).

Hi Paul
This is an interesting article on Google's project but I don't quite
understand Google's motivation/intentions ..Are they creating a library
that
will charge fees? Will they then own journals that they copy? will they
repackage and re-copyright - can anyone explain this a little further..
best Jessica
