Re: [BKARTS] Bright Hill Center's 5th Annual North American Juried Book Arts Exhibit


TREADWELL, NY, in the Catskill Mountain Region --- Bright Hill Center's Word & Image 
Gallery announces the opening reception and exhibit of the 5th Bright Hill North American 
Juried Book Arts Exhibit, featuring artists' books from throughout the United States. The 
opening reception will take place on Sunday, October 8, from 3 - 5 pm, at the gallery; the 
exhibit, will remain at Bright Hill through October 27. Gallery hours are Mondays through 
Thursdays, 10 am - 4 pm, and by appointment. The Center is located at 94 Church Street, 
Treadwell, one block north of Barlow's General Store, and the reception and exhibit are free 
and open to the public.
            Book artist and founder of New York City's The Center for Book Arts Richard Minsky,
Hudson, NY and book artist and founder of Bright Hill Press Bertha Rogers, Treadwell, 
selected Glenview, Illinois artist Karen Hanmer's paper and acetate flag book, "Bluestem," as 
Best of Show and awarded her $200; second place and $100 were awarded to Shawn 
Sheehy, Chicago, for his children's pop-up book, "Welcome to the Neighborwood."
            The unique and varied books in this year's exhibit were created by the following 
artists/bookmakers: Jennifer Brook, Asheville, NC; Betsy Davids, Berkeley, CA; Elsi Vassdal 
Ellis, Bellingham, WA; Wendy Fernstrum, Minneapolis, MN; c. j. grossman, Berkeley, CA; 
Karen Hanmer, Glenview, IL; Beverly B. Hettig, Penfield, NY; Garret A. Izumi, Portland, OR; 
Ellen Knudson, Starkville, MS; Aimee Lee, Hastings, NY; Rachel Melis, Manhattan, KS; 
Beverly Nichols, Lenexa, KS; Katherine Nicholson, Mesa, AZ; Bonnie Thompson Norman, 
Seattle, WA; Michele Heather Pollock, Inver Grove Hts, MN; Johanne Renbeck, Staatsburg, 
NY; Shawn Sheehy, Chicago, IL; Genie Shenk, Solana Beach, CA: Lynn Sures, Wheaton, 
MD; Nikki Thompson, San Francisco, DA; Jennifer Vignone, Middle Village, NY; Elysa 
Voshell & John Karpinski, Philadelphia, PA; and Frances Watson, San Diego, CA.
	There will be a catalog of the exhibit, available from Bright Hill Press, at a cost of $16 
plus tax where applicable and $3.50 shipping and handling.
