Re: [BKARTS] Help with LCSH for conservators

The discussion that David pulled up from the ConDistList archives still
seems to be accurate, 11 years later. LCSH has the headings
"Books--Conservation and restoration," and "Library
materials--Conservation and restoration" (and similarly for types of art
objects) and then there's the heading "Bookbinders," but there isn't one
neat & tidy heading that combines these two ideas and refers to the
persons who do the work of conservation. Probably because books tend to
focus on the activity rather than the persons as a distinct class?

If what you need is a term for the occupation, there might be something
in a Dept. of Labor publication that would have it, though I'm not sure
how nuanced that would be either.

Hope this helps,
Carolyn Coates

Subject: [BKARTS] Help with LCSH for conservators

Could anyone help please with information on the LCSH for Conservators?
Is
there such a heading for the people who do "conservation and
restoration"?

with thanks
Linda
