Jana Pullman--Bound in Leather

There is something magical about a book bound in fine leather. Students will learn to pare and handle leather to make quarter-, half-, and full-bound books. We will cover variations in structures and the characteristics of different materials, along with traditional and contemporary trends in tooling and decorative methods. We will learn blind and gold tooling using both foils and gold leaf, and the use of onlays and inlays of leather to add color and texture to your designs. The class will benefit both beginning and experienced students. All levels.

Jana Pullman is a studio artist and the owner of Western Slope, a conservation and bookbinding business. Jana is an adjunct professor at University of Minnesota and a faculty member at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
