[BKARTS] Paul Johnson Workshop at Philadelphia Center for the Book

APRIL 21-22, 2007

WORKSHOPS WITH PAUL JOHNSON
MASTER EDUCATOR & BOOK ARTIST
Sponsored by the Philadelphia Center for the Book

SATURDAY, APRIL 21: THE PERMANENTLY OPEN PAGE
Construct a 3-dimensional book that hangs on the wall
instead of sitting on a shelf. Participants make 3D
models using a variety of techniques. Then, we
incorporate several of these models into a single book
and experiment with different paper-engineering
techniques (including pop-up toy theatre forms) for
use within the single page.
9:30 - 5:00, 728 SOUTH BROAD STREET, PHILADELPHIA
$120 for the public/$100 for members of the
Philadelphia Center for the Book

SUNDAY, APRIL 22: JACK IN THE BOX BOOK
Make a movable book of interlocking pages that springs
out of a box. Both the book and the box (including the
attached lid) are made from single sheets of paper
without the use of adhesive. Another springing book
that joins pages together by using scrolls follows.
Finally, we make a fantastic 3D book integrating paper
quilling into the design. Please note that this is a
completely different from Paul?s Box of Fireworks
workshop.
9:30 - 5:00, 728 SOUTH BROAD STREET, PHILADELPHIA
$120 for the public/$100 for members of the
Philadelphia Center for the Book

$200 for the public/$160 for PCB members if you enroll
in both workshops.
