Re: [BKARTS] leather sample books?

Hi Lee,

There's a nice section (in color) of 20 Leather Surface Pattens in the newer (Fourth Edition) of "The Restoration of Leather Bindings" by Bernard C. Middleton. The book is a must have Classic Work, so the Fourth is worth getting. Also has a nice section (in color) of Marbled Papers for restoration.

Middleton recommends "Leather in Life, Art and Industry" a 1946 book by John W. Waterer as a useful source, even though it's a little out of date in some respects.

Subject: [BKARTS] leather sample books?

Does anyone know of a source for a fairly complete set of
samples/descriptions of bookbinding leathers (including classics)? Something
that would instruct booksellers on the type and quality of leather they
might have in hand (on a bound book).

Thanks in advance,
Lee
