[BKARTS] coptic bookbinding workshop

Double Board Coptic Bookbinding
This workshop will introduce an ancient Coptic binding
technique that is well suited to the 21st century.
This type of binding has been found on books dating
back to the 8th - 9th century. The workshop will
cover the specific sewing techniques and attachment of
the binder?s board. Attachment of end bands and
covering the binder?s board with leather will be
demonstrated and practiced. This type of binding
requires very little leather paring. The decoration
of the leather binding will be demonstrated and
practiced. Appropriate lacings and closures for this
type of binding will be presented during the class.
This course is open to all skill levels; however, a
basic understanding of bookbinding concepts will be
helpful. This course is limited to 12 students.
