[BKARTS] APHA SoCal Salon #3

Presenting our next APHA Southern California Chapter Salon:
SOME THINGS ABOUT ZINES – Christina Favretto
Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:30pm

Do you want to learn more about the curious and multi-faceted world of ‘zines? Find out about these ephemeral, fugitive, and fascinating publications from long-time zine maven (and former “zinester”) Cristina Favretto [currently Rare Books Librarian, Department of Special Collections, UCLA]. You’ll learn about zine history, zine terminology (what are “perzines”? or “distros”?), famous zines ("Factsheet Five", "Duplex Planet", Bust and the local Razorcake), and discuss the future of paper zines in the electronic age. You’ll also view examples of a wide variety of zines from UCLA’s Darby Romeo Collection, with an emphasis on those produced and published in Southern California. You are encouraged to bring your favorite zines, and to discuss their merits/flaws with fellow aficionados. Participants in this Salon will also put together a “one-off” example of a zine as a memento of the occasion.

Location:
APHA SoCal member Marcia Moore’s Studio
Back Space Book Arts, 595 Venice Boulevard, Venice, CA 90291
310/722-9004

Limited to 12 attendees. Please RSVP by September 3 to:
