BookOpolis, now in its third year, is an exciting weekend of artists’ books and print media including an exhibit on Friday night with live music under big tent and an open-house on Saturday with hands-on activities. All events take place at Asheville BookWorks in West Asheville, N.C. BookOpolis events are free and open to the public.

BookWorks in Asheville, N.C. announces an open call for The Third Annual ‘BookOpolis’

September 10 – 14th
Open call for Artists’ Books, Broadsides, Original Hand Printed Posters and Prints

Artists working in the book or print form may submit up to two (2) pieces for exhibit. Works may be one-of-a-kind or editioned.

We are especially seeking works that take advantage of the unique aspects of the book form: multiple surfaces, development of ideas across time, integration of image and text, interesting combinations of concept and structure, and works that take advantage of opportunities offered by this form for interactive and installation- like expression. Additionally, we are seeking 2-D Print Media, especially letterpress broadsides and original hand-pulled posters. Commercially reproduced books or prints are not eligible for this exhibition.

This year we are curating a small group of BookOpolis work to remain on display through October. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like to be considered for this additional exhibition time. Artists whose work is selected will be notified by e-mail before September 21st.

September 21, Friday 6 – 9 pm: Exhibition Opening and Reception

BookOpolis is free and open to the public; join us to celebrate an explosion of artists’ books and print media and meet many of the artists. Last year’s event was host to over 80 works and over 100 guests.

September 22, Saturday 10 – 3 pm: Open House / Hands-On Activities

Explore the art of the book! Enjoy a variety of bookish activities for all ages. Screen printing, letterpress and bookbinding will be set up for visitors to participate.
