TREADWELL, NY -- - Bright Hill Center's Word & Image Gallery announces
the opening reception and exhibit of its 6th North American Juried Book Arts
Exhibit, featuring artists' books from throughout the United States.
             The opening reception will take place on Sunday, October 7, from 3 - 5 pm , 
at the gallery; the exhibit, will remain at Bright Hill through October 31.
Gallery hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 am - 4 pm, and by
appointment. The Center is located at 94 Church Street, Treadwell, one block
north of Barlow's General Store, and the reception and exhibit are free and open to the 
            Glenview, IL book artist Karen Hanmer and Bright Hill Press's founding director 
Bertha Rogers selected Shaker Heights, OH artist Ben Blount's "B is for Black: An 
Abecadarium of Black Culture" and Minneapolis, MN artist Sara Langworthy's "Morpho 
Terrestre" as first place winners; they each received $150.
            The unique and varied books---traditional, accordion, flag, case, ledger,
woven, pop-up, and other styles of bindings---in this year's exhibit were
created by the following artists/bookmakers: Ben Blount, Shaker Heights, OH,
Ginger Burrell, San Jose, CA; Sarah Bryant, Tuscaloosa, AL; Sally Canzoneri,
Washington, DC; Kerri Cushman, Farmville, VA; Elaine Downing, Oneonta,
NY; Elsi Vassdal Ellis, Bellingham, WA; Barbara Adams Hebard, Melrose, MA; Ed Hutchins, 
Mt.Vernon, NY; Paula Jull, Pocatello, Idaho; Jenny Kim, Chicago, IL;
Elaine Langerman, Washington, DC; Sara Langworthy, Minneapolis, MN;
Emily Martin, Iowa City, IA; Kitty Maryatt, Playa Vista, CA; Nora Lee McGillivray,
Shoreview, MN; Stephanie Nace, Columbia, SC; Claire Owen, Philadelphia, PA;
Susan Porteous, Long Beach, Ca; Lisa Beth Robinson, Greenville, NC;
Regula Russell and CB Sherlock, St. Paul, MN; Jill Timn, Wenatchee, WA;
Jennifer Vignone, Middle Village, NY; Patricia Vining, Laguna Beach, CA;
Ashlee Weitlauf, Tempe AZ; and Asa Yoshie, Santa Barbara, CA;
There will be a catalog of the exhibit, available from Bright Hill Press, at a cost of $16 plus tax
where applicable and $4.60 shipping and handling.
