The Artwork of Susan Joy Share

Thursday, November 8 at 4 p.m. in the 
Peter Graham Scholarly Commons, E.S. Bird Library, Syracuse, NY

Susan Joy Share, artist, bookbinder and performer, will show slides and video of her magical handmade boxes and books whose colorful contents include expanding structures, animated objects, and percussive sounds. Share combines a multitude of media derived from traditional bookbinding, sewing, painting, collage and sculpture. She will also show work she created for public art commissions in Anchorage. 

Susan Joy Share was born in Syracuse, NY and received a BFA from the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1977. She worked as an artist in New York City for 20 years, then, moved to Anchorage, AK in 1997.

Share's artwork is included in collections at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Ruth and Marvin Sackner Archive and the Arthur and Mata Jaffe Collection. She has exhibited and performed a throughout the US and in England, Ireland and Hungary

Share worked as a book conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Historical Society, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, and taught at many noted institutions including the Center for Book Arts, NYC; Anderson Ranch Arts Center , CO; Penland School of Crafts, NC; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, ME; visual Studies Workshop, NY; Columbia College Center for Book and Paper, IL; and the University of Alaska Anchorage
