The Cornell University Library, department of Preservation and Collection Maintenance, is seeking a Preservation Assistant II. The successful candidate will works under the direction of the Assistant Book Conservator. The Preservation Assistant II primarily constructs custom-made clamshell boxes for a grant-funded project. Must organize large groups of materials and meet monthly production deadlines. Must be able to work efficiently in a large book conservation lab. May deal with circulating and rare materials, performing book repair/restoration, binding, and paper conservation treatment on books, pamphlets, manuscripts, and paper graphics as needed. Assists in water emergencies.

Associates degree with 1-2 years of experience in book conservation or equivalent combination. Good manual dexterity and attention to detail. Able to perform repetitive work in a production oriented setting. Able to stand for long periods of time. Preferred: Experience with skilled crafts, precise measurement and assembly.

This is a one year term position.
