[BKARTS] Book Arts Exhibit in Saginaw, Michigan

November 5 - 28, 2007 "URBAN POETRY/URBAN DECAY: Photographs and
Artist Books by Laura Russell" Presented by the University Art Gallery
at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan.

All over the United States, once-thriving factory towns are dying.
Decades of poverty and the decline of the automotive business are
creating an urban blight that is heartbreaking. The photographs for
Laura Russell's "Urban Decay" project were all taken in Saginaw,
Michigan in one very small neighborhood and have evolved from an
artist book to a gallery installation project. Laura Russell is a
photographer and book artist who grew up in Saginaw and currently
lives in Portland, Oregon. She creates hand-bound, limited-edition
artist books that incorporate her own photographs to tell a story
about our culture and our communities. You can see her work at
www.laurarussell.net.

There will be a reception for the artist on Thursday, November 8, 4:30
to 6:30 p.m.

The University Art Gallery is located in the Arbury Fine Arts Center
on SVSU's Saginaw campus at 7400 Bay Road. Enter the SVSU campus off
Bay Road and continue straight on Campus Drive West. The third right
is Fine Arts Drive. Enter the glass doors at the end of the circular
drive. Campus maps can be found at
