Book Arts Studio Assistant
Book Arts Program at the J. Willard Marriott Library
University of Utah

Responsibilities:
Supports all Book Arts Program outreach and K-12 programming, including
workshops; exhibitions; public demonstrations and presentations;
training of teachers and volunteers. This position contributes to all
aspects of event development, coordination, and publicity. 

Provides public relations services for all Book Arts Program events;
assists in Book Arts Program and Book Arts Studio record keeping,
filing, material and equipment organization and maintenance. May assist
in website maintenance. This position assists Book Arts Program
instructors, working directly with them to meet all venue, space,
equipment requirements; assists in the preparation of all workshop
materials and preparation of all publicity materials; may assist in
supervision of part-time staff and volunteers. 

Contributes to the ongoing development of K-12 curriculum, enhancement
of resource materials, and creation of bookmaking instructions for all
volunteer instructors. Contributes to the publicity strategy to reach
the greatest number of K-12 teachers. Assists in Red Butte Press
printing projects. This position works directly under the supervision of
the Book Arts Studio Manager and Instructor. 

Qualifications:
A commitment to outstanding, quality job performance is required.
Demonstrated communication and written skills are required. A Bachelors
degree in the humanities and/or comparable experience is strongly
preferred.  Proficiency in word processing is required.  Preference is
given to the candidate with at least one year experience in event
coordination; general knowledge of the history of the book; and a basic
knowledge of library organization, principles, and procedures. 

Preferences:
Competency in all aspects of bookmaking is preferred. Experience in
letterpress printing and a working knowledge of pressroom equipment
maintenance is strongly preferred. Experience with Photoshop, Quark
and/or InDesign is strongly preferred. 

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, daytime hours, some
evenings and weekends. 

Salary with full University of Utah Benefits Package: $30,000 annually.
