Re: [BKARTS] Basic Book Repair Supplies - Bookbinding References in Print

Following Sid Huttner's lead, I browsed a number
of additional online catalogs to get a fix on
bookbinding literature. Sid's caveat pertains
here as well, the subject "bookbinding" covers
diverse interests, a minor part of which are
manuals.

WorldCat yields 9,523 records for subject "bookbinding",
including all types of media (8,561 books) and 5,739 in
English.

Curiously, the British Library Integrated Catalog
yields just 558 titles with subject "bookbinding."

Perhaps second best to privileged access to WorldCat,
the library at Rochester Institute of Technology
has a well-organized catalog of 2,289 entries found
with subject "Bookbinding" plus a host of "see also"
categories.

Not included above is RIT's Cary Collection, which
includes The Bernard C. Middleton Collection of
Books on the History and Practice of Bookbinding.

"It is one of the finest resources in the world for
the study of the bookbinding history and practice.
Presently numbering some 2,000 volumes (and countless
ephemera), the collection is housed in its own
reading room within the Cary Graphic Arts Collection.
Though not yet catalogued, the Middleton Collection
is fully available to researchers for on-site use,
while reasonable correspondence inquiries will be
answered as quickly as possible."

In addition, RIT is a participant in "NY Connect",
a college/university consortium. A similar search
for subject "bookbinding" there yields 2,584 listings.

A search of subject "bookbinding" in the Library of
Congress online catalog yields a long list of titles.
The total count is not apparent.

All these catalogs ordinarily have separate listings for
different editions and for duplicate copies.
