[BKARTS] Grolier Club lectures and events, Spring 2008

As part of its mission to foster wider appreciation of books and prints, this spring the Grolier Club will again be opening some of its lectures and other events to the book-loving public. The current schedule is as follows:

* January 8 -- Rare Book School Lecture: Frank M. Turner, Director of the Beinecke Library, Yale University, will present "Meditations on the Beinecke Directorship." 6 pm. Reception follows. Please note that the lecture will be held on TUESDAY JANUARY 8, not Wednesday January 9, as previously announced.
* January 22 -- One-day conference on "Book Catalogues, Today & Tomorrow." Please note: As of Friday December 14, the conference is fully subscribed, and no more places are available.
* January 23 -- Lecture: James N. Green and Peter Stallybrass, on the Grolier Club exhibition "Benjamin Franklin, Writer and Printer." 2 pm.
* February 22 -- Symposium on the history, technology and conservation of nineteenth-century publishers' bindings, sponsored by the Guild of Book Workers, New York Chapter. Held in conjunction with the Grolier Club exhibition "The Proper Decoration of Book Covers: The Life and Work of Alice C. Morse from the collection of Mindell Dubansky." Save the date: details TBA.
* April 1 -- Lecture: Curator Margaret D. Stetz and collector Mark Smauels Lasner will speak about the exhibition "Facing the Late Victorians: Portraits of Writers and Artists from the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection." 6 pm, reception follows.
* April 8 -- Lecture: Alan Fern will speak on British portraiture, in connection with the exhibition "Facing the Late Victorians: Portraits of Writers and Artists from the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection." 6 pm, reception follows.
* April 17 -- American Printing History Association J. Ben Lieberman Memorial Lecture: Sue Allen on "A Doubly Fascinating Book: Hawthorne's Wonder Book Illustrated by Walter Crane." 6 pm, reception follows.
