[BKARTS] Workshop with Helene Jolis

Dear Book Enthusiasts:
The American Academy of Bookbinding in Telluride, Colorado is offering a
one-week class this spring 2008 that has never been taught in the US. Helene
Jolis, a French finisher for Monique Mathieu, Sun Evrard and many others,
will lead a class on Contemporary Decoration Techniques. The techniques
taught in this class open real possibilities to creative work in
contemporary decoration. They are adapted to the need of most designer
bookbinders, from beginners to professionals, without requiring an
investment of costly tools.
All students will work on one or two large leather covered panels and will
utilize a number of techniques including onlay, inlay, relief, juxtaposition
and incision. The techniques are easily accessible to everyone and will lead
to precision, finesse and an improved quality of work. Learning the
progression of difficulties will allow students to develop not only the
skill of the hand but also the precision of the eye. The objective is to
lead the student to a technical understanding that will serve to stimulate

the United States. Helene is a wonderful and generous teacher.
The dates for the one-week class are: May 19-23, 2008 or May 26-30, 2008.
The cost for the workshop is $800. Class size is limited to eight students
