Sort of. I didn't catch the rat, but did alum taw it in 1979 at the National Leathersellers' Centre in Northampton (England) for my binding of Patti Smith's book _Babel_: http://minsky.com/5.htm

That's not what you want to do. In that case I dehaired it, but you want to tan it with the fur on. There are several ways to do that--you should read some of the books on tanning and choose a method that suits your situation, or salt the skin and send it to a tannery. A good thing for you to do might be to look in the yellow pages for a local taxidermist and see if they will get it processed for you.
