Re: [BKARTS] New MFA in Book Art & Creative Writing

I think that U of Iowa has a similar program. Their school of journalism has (or had) their own press room and many cabinets of type which was always a sore spot since they wouldn't share their type collection with the lowly Type Kitchen practitioners in the certificate program.

Looks like a great program Mills is offering, wish it had been around 20 years ago.

Mills College is very pleased to announce its new MFA in Book Art & Creative Writing. The program will begin in August, 2009; applications will be accepted until February 1, 2009. This degree, the first of its kind in the country, will allow students to balance creative writing with study and studio practice in book art. The two- year program will include an additional non-resident semester during which students will finalize their work for their gallery exhibition.

An overview and details can be found on the Mills College website:

There will be a community open house on Tuesday October 14, 2008, at 4:30pm to tour the new book art facilities; potential students are welcome at that time. They can also make appointments to visit the campus, attend classes and speak with faculty about the new program by emailing bookart@xxxxxxxxxx Email queries are also welcome at that address.
