Re: [BKARTS] Bright Hill's 7th Annual Juried Book Arts Exhibit Opening October 5

TREADWELL, NY -- - Bright Hill Center's Word & Image Gallery announces 
the opening reception and exhibit of its 7th Juried Book Arts 
Exhibit, featuring artists' books from throughout the United States. 
             The opening reception will take place on Sunday, October 5, from 
3 - 5 pm, in the gallery; the exhibit will remain at Bright Hill through 
October 31. Gallery hours are Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 am - 4 pm; Wednesdays, 
9 am - noon, and by appointment. The Center is located at 94 Church Street, 
Treadwell, one block north of Barlow's General Store, and the reception and 
exhibit are free and open to the public. 
           Rochester, NY book artist Keith Smith and Bright Hill's founding 
director Bertha Rogers selected Chicago artist Shawn Sheehy's "Beyond the 
Sixth Extinction: A Fifth Millennium Bestiary" as best in show and Pittsboro, 
NC artist Josh Hockensmith's ""Googled English Frontier Star" for second 
place. Sheehy received $200 and Hockensmith received $100 cash awards.    
            The unique and varied books---traditional, accordion, flag, case, 
ledger, woven, pop-up, and other styles of bindings---in this year's exhibit 
were created by the following artists/bookmakers: Alex Appella, Salem, OR & 
Argentina; Sarah H. Bryant, Aurora, NY; Paula J. Curran, Ames, IA; Kerri L. 
Cushman, Farmville, VA; Elsi Vassdal Ellis, Bellingham, WA; Brandon Graham, 
Downers Grove, IL; Karen Hanmer, Glenview, IL: Josh Hockensmith, Pittsboro, 
NC; Craig Jobson, Evanston, IL; Sun Young Kang, Pittsburgh, PA; Ellen 
Knudson, Starkville, MS; Elaine Langerman, Washingotn, DC; Emily Martin, Iowa 
City, IA; Daniel P. Mellis, Chicago, IL; Cathryn Miller, Grasswood, SK, 
Canada; Kelly M. Nelson, Farmville, VA; Sara R. Parr, Minneapolis, MN; 
Johanne Renbeck, Staatsburg, NY; Lisa Beth Robinson, Greenville, NC; Carolyn 
M. Shattuck, Rutland, VT; Shawn Sheehy, Chicago, IL; Margaret Suchland, 
Tucson, AZ; and Susan Viguers, Philadelphia, PA. 
           There will be a catalog of the exhibit, available from Bright Hill 
Press, at a cost of $16 plus tax where applicable and $4.80 shipping and 
            Word Thursdays/ Bright Hill Press's 2007 programs are made 
possible, in part, by the York State Council on the Arts, the A. 
Lindsay and Olive B.O'Connor Foundation, the Walter B. Rich Charitable
