Master Class:
The Editioned Book from Start to Finish with Julie Chen
This workshop will focus on issues related to the design and production of
limited edition artists' books. Participants will be guided through an
accelerated version of the entire editioning process from the development of
the initial idea all the way through to the finished product. Topics covered
will include content development, image-making, text writing, letterpress
printing, and bookbinding. We will address questions that arise at various
points during production such as how to turn book ideas into feasible
physical form, how to deal with the limitations of available equipment and
technology, how to develop an efficient assembly process, and most
importantly, how to deal with deadlines. We will attempt to accomplish in
three days what, under normal circumstance, might take three weeks or even 3
months, and have fun doing it in an intensive three-day period of non-stop
activity that will be equal parts obstacle race and creative retreat.
October 24-26, Friday through Sunday, 10 am to 4pm Julie Chen $500/$525

Participants must have previous bookmaking and letterpress experience.
Please contact the Center to register.
