Patricia, 

well written.  How often do any of us run across an engineer, chemist,
writer, house builder ... who acknowledges every one, let alone any one, of
their teachers?  What is the difference with book artists? Nothing I think.
Once you teach something it becomes part of your students' knowledge base to
use as they see fit.  If you don't want people to share in your knowledge
and experience, then don't share it with them.  However, remember well all
those you have learned from and not thought to acknowledge and remember that
by withholding knowledge you are not advancing the art.
