[BKARTS] For Sale: T.J. Cobden-Sanderson: Two volumes (Doves Press interest)

TWO Volumes offered together:

1.  Strouse, Norman H. and Dreyfus, John. C-S the Master Craftsman: an
Account of the Work of T.J. Cobden-Sanderson by Norman H. Strouse;
Cobden-Sanderson?s partnership with Emery Walker by John Dreyfus. Harper
Woods, MI: The Adagio Press, 1969. Folio (15 x 10 inches), pp: 50 + [1]
(half title 'Note by the printer') + [1] (blank) + [2] (Note and colophon).
With descriptive brochure and a sheet with a mounted photograph of
Cobden-Sanderson and Emery Walker in the courtyard of the Doves Press laid
in.  Handsewn and bound by Gertrud and Fritz Eberhardt in Cockerell marbled
paper over boards with a vellum binding stamped in gold. Signed by Leonard
Bahr (printer), numbered 68 of 242 copies (after deluxe editions of 12 and
75). Two original Doves press leaves are tipped in: a folio leaf from the
Doves Bible, and a typical quarto leaf. Tiny rubs to corner tips, rear free
endsheet creased/crimped corner, otherwise fine condition.

The two essays discuss the great controversy between Cobden-Sanderson and
Emery Walker. Norman Strouse drew on Cobden-Sanderson?s unpublished
manuscript "Pro Iracundia sua Apolgia" for his essay. John Dreyfus accessed
unpublished documents in writing about the partnership between the two men.

2.  Frederick B. Jr. Adams.  Bookbindings  By T.J. Cobden-Sanderson: an
Exhibition at the Pierpont Morgan Library September 3-November 4, 1968. NY:
Pierpont Morgan Library, 1969. Quarto, printed gray wraps. 32 + [1] pp. with
36 full-page B&W illustrations and  colophon. One of 1350 copies. Very faint
toning at edges, else about Fine condition.
