[BKARTS] The Book as Art: Creating Artist Books In Florence, Italy

THE BOOK AS ART:

CREATING ARTIST BOOKS IN FLORENCE, ITALY

SANTA REPARATA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF ART

WITH CATHY DEFOREST AND MARY LAIRD

AUGUST 6-27, 2009

TUITION: $2,100

Join us for three fabulous weeks creating art at Santa Reparata International School of Art, located in the heart of Florence. This book arts program is being offered by The Dan Welden International Firenze 2009 Workshops. Participants will venture beyond the Renaissance city into the countryside to stir their imaginations, find and deepen their artistic voices, and create artist books. Participants will be encouraged to use multiple media such as: painting, printmaking, photography, fabric arts and found objects. The time together will include: field trips, demonstrations, and experimenting with book structures, images and text. This three-week residency places students within walking distance of the Duomo, and the work by Giotto, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci. Concentrated studio time as well as leisure time in the nearby Tuscan countryside will be woven into the workshop. As a finale, students will be invited to exhibit art at the Santa Reparata Gallery.

Included: Tours of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano

Optional: Four day trip to the Biennale in Venice (estimate $500)
