[BKARTS] BookArts show in Loveladies, NJ

beyondWORDS: BookFest 2009
An exhibition of innovative and engaging art in book form

A wide variety of handcrafted books will be on display at the LBIFAS from
Thursday, June 11 to Monday, June 29. This show of regionally, nationally,
and internationally known book artists allows visitors to see a familiar
object, a book, re-imagined and re-created in exciting and unfamiliar ways.
>From more traditional forms to extravagant explosions of color, beyondWORDS:
BookFest 2009 is sure to please the eyes and the mind.

The books include traditionally bound volumes, fabric scrolls, unfolding
paper structures, pop-ups, hand-cast paper pages, fine letterpress printing,
and dramatic sculptural pieces. There is a book of boxed bugs, and even a
boat riding the crest of a wave made of handcrafted Scrabble tiles.

Everyone is invited to attend the Artists' reception on Sunday, June 14,
from 5 to 7 p.m. Workshops that coordinate with the show include: 4-Drawer
Japanese Box on Saturday, June 13; Secrets of Paper Animation on Saturday, June
20: and, Basic Book Structures for Artists and Writers on Sunday, June 21.

beyondWORDS: BookFest 2009 is curated by New York bookbinder Carolyn
Chadwick and Ed Hutchins from Editions, a studio for producing artist book
multiples in Mount Vernon, New York.

The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences (LBIF) was
established in 1948 as a non-profit institution by artist Boris Blai to provide
arts and educational opportunities for the Long Beach Island community. Blai,
a sculptor and founding dean of Tyler School of Art, felt that through
exceptional art classes, exhibitions, and cultural activities, the LBIF could
provide visitors and residents with opportunities to share and experience
cultural programs not available elsewhere in the region. Since 1948, the LBIF has
offered many unique programs with highly accomplished artists and
performers from New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia, and across the nation.

The Mission of the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is
to promote the arts and sciences on Long Beach Island and surrounding
communities by enlightening, educating, and stimulating thought and discussion
about current trends in the arts and sciences and by providing broad
educational and cultural programs for all ages.
