[BKARTS] BRIGHT HIL'S WORD & IMAGE GALLERY OPENS FRAN WATSON ARTIST'S BOOK EXHIBIT SUNDAY, JUNE 7

BRIGHT HILL'S WORD & IMAGE GALLERY OPENS EXHIBIT OF ARTIST'S BOOKS BY
SAN DIEGO ARTIST FRAN WATSON ON SUNDAY, JUNE 7

TREADWELL, NY, IN THE CATSKILL MOUTAINS -- BRIGHT HILL'S WORD &
IMAGE GALLERY OPENS its third exhibit of the 2009 season, artist's books by San Diego
artist Fran Watson on Sunday, June 7, from 3 - 5 pm.  During the opening reception, the
artist will speak about her work and answer questions. The exhibit will continue through June
26; the gallery is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 am - 4 pm and Wednesdays from 9
am - noon and by appointment and is free and open to the public.
Fran Watson attended the University of Arizona, and received a BFA from the
University of Southern California. She studied painting with Dorothy Hood at the Museum
School, then moved to Boston, where she worked as a painter, exhibiting her work widely.
Ultimately her interests moved toward making books and, in time, to printmaking, both of
which have been her focus for many yearsl she found that, because of the book form, there
is an immediate contact with the observer because books do not intimidate and are meant to
be touched and carried. After moving to San Diego, Watson became a founding member of
San Diego Book Arts. Her books have appeared in many shows throughout the US and are
included in many private and university collections.
Bright Hill Center's 2009 programs are made possible, in part, by the York
State Council on the Arts, the A. Lindsay and Olive B.O'Connor Foundation,

Community Library & Internet Wing, which features a large collection of art and
art-related volumes, is free and open to the public, and is open Monday-Friday,
10 am - 4 pm, and by appointment. For further informationabout Bright Hill Literary
